First Camp Report of the Season!

Wow, what a great week of riding for the first 15 Pro Ride Campers of the 2014-2015 season! This all-star bunch of trainee instructors, freeride and freestyle riders really shined through the sometimes challenging and gusty weather conditions early in the week.

Spotlight on Coach Duncan

Undoubted one of the best snowboard coaches in Whistler, Pro Ride’s head coach Duncan Mainland has been working with our team for over 10 years now and as head coach he over sees all the day to day training to ensure campers are progressing, achieving goals and having fun.  Duncan is one of very few CASI level 4 coaches in Whistler and also holds his Park 2, CASI evaluator, NCCP 1, CSF Comp. Dev certifications.

We asked Duncan a few questions (see below) so you can get to know him and there's a short 2013-14 season edit which sums his skills right up.  For those of you lucky ones coming out to ride with us this winter you’re in for a treat.

Pre Season Beginner Snowboard Workout

Winter is rapidly approaching, and with it, we are all waiting for - Snow. Arapahoe Basin and Killington are already open for business in the States and the white gold has already started hitting the Alps, and Japan which is great news for our Japan Powder Trip in February.

Closer to home, Whistler Blackcomb athletes Mark Sollors and Chris Rasman were cutting fresh lines on the Blackcomb Glacier last weekend, where weeks of precipitation have raised hopes of an early opening.

Fresh Tracks on Whistler

Fresh Tracks on Blackcomb Nov 1st.  With snow falling heavily in the Alpine over the past 2 weeks we have our first sneak peak of current conditions in the Alpine.  Whistler Blackcomb teamed up with some local athletes in a heli mission to the top including Mike DouglasAshleigh McIvor DeMeritRory BushfieldMark Sollors, and Chris Rasman and discovered it is looking like winter. The countdown to official opening day on November 27, is on.

Will Jackways - Interpretation

Will Jackways, long time friend of Pro Ride, has been a leader in the New Zealand snowboard scene and around the world for years. This guy can shred pow with undeniable style, as seen in his Japan pow edit from last season.
